Therapeutic Hot Stone Massage Diploma
Therapeutic Hot Stone Massage Diploma
There is something undeniably special about the combination of skilled hands and the comforting warmth of heated stones. Therapeutic Hot Stone Massage offers clients a deeply relaxing experience while also giving therapists an incredibly versatile tool for addressing muscular tension, improving treatment flow and enhancing their existing practice. That’s why we offer our Therapeutic Hot Stone Massage Diploma.
At the School of Bodywork, we believe hot stones should be used for far more than simply placing them on the body or following a routine. This diploma is designed to help you integrate them thoughtfully into your massage treatments, using heat to complement your existing techniques and create truly bespoke sessions tailored to each client.
Whether you primarily provide relaxation massage or work more remedially, learning to use hot stones effectively can transform the way you treat tissue. Heat can soften superficial structures, encourage relaxation and allow deeper work to be carried out with greater ease and comfort. You will explore how to combine traditional massage techniques with hot stones, as well as incorporating them into deeper, more targeted treatments where appropriate.
With comprehensive pre-course theory and two days of practical training, you will leave with the confidence to offer both dedicated hot stone treatments and seamlessly weave hot stones into many of the therapies you already provide. It is a treatment that clients often return for again and again, particularly during the colder months when the penetrating warmth offers a uniquely comforting experience.
Why you should train with us
Our approach focuses on versatility rather than routine. You will learn how to use hot stones not only for deeply relaxing treatments but also as practical tools within therapeutic and remedial massage.
The course combines sound theoretical knowledge with extensive hands-on practice, helping you understand safe application, treatment planning and clinical reasoning alongside practical technique. With a small class size, you will benefit from plenty of individual guidance and opportunities to refine your skills.
We also encourage students to train with the equipment they intend to use in practice wherever possible, helping you become familiar with your own setup from the outset.

FAQs
Do you recommend using a water bath or a dry heating bag for the stones?
We often recommend the Vulsini heating bags together with natural basalt stones because of their versatility and ease of use. However, this is ultimately a matter of personal preference and many therapists continue to enjoy using traditional water baths. Detailed guidance on both options, including equipment recommendations and discounts, is provided when you gain access to the online learning materials.
Can I heat stones in a slow cooker or use stones collected from the beach?
We would not recommend either approach. Professional hot stone massage relies on safe, consistent temperature control, which is best achieved using specialist heating equipment. Purpose-made basalt stones are specifically selected, shaped and polished for therapeutic use, helping ensure both effective heat retention and client safety.
