Fascial Bodywork Practitioner Diploma
Fascial Bodywork Practitioner Diploma
It is not about learning to do more. It is about learning to notice more.
There comes a point in many therapists’ careers when they begin asking different questions.
Why do some clients continue to return with the same pain despite apparently successful treatment? Why does discomfort often appear somewhere completely different from where the real problem seems to lie? Why can one gentle intervention create profound change, while stronger techniques sometimes appear to achieve very little?
If you have found yourself asking questions like these, you are not alone.
Our Fascial Bodywork Practitioner Diploma is designed for therapists who are ready to look beyond isolated muscles and joints and begin exploring the body as an interconnected, living system. Formerly known as the Myofascial Release Diploma, this programme reflects our evolving understanding of fascia—not simply as connective tissue surrounding muscles, but as an extraordinary communication network that links every part of the body from head to toe.
As our understanding of fascia continues to develop, so too must the way we think about assessment and treatment. Whilst traditional biomechanical models have given us valuable foundations, modern research into fascia, pain science, embryological development and biotensegrity is encouraging therapists to see the body in a far more integrated way. Rather than asking, “Which muscle is causing the problem?” we begin asking, “What is the body trying to tell us?”
This Diploma is not about memorising routines or learning a single method of working. Instead, it is about developing your ability to observe, listen, palpate and respond to the person in front of you. You will explore a wide range of both direct and indirect fascial approaches, learning not only how different techniques are applied but also why you might choose one approach over another.
Throughout the course you will discover how fascia responds to physical injury, inflammation, habitual movement patterns, emotional holding and nervous system states. You will begin to appreciate how movement, perception, breathing, psychology and touch continually influence one another, allowing you to support meaningful and lasting change rather than simply chasing symptoms.
One of the most rewarding aspects of Fascial Bodywork is that it benefits both therapist and client. As your sensitivity develops, many of the techniques require less physical effort than more forceful approaches, allowing you to work with greater ease, comfort and longevity throughout your career. Rather than feeling that you must constantly “fix” clients through strength or pressure, you begin to work with the body, allowing it the opportunity to reorganise itself in its own time.
This is not simply another postgraduate massage qualification. It is an invitation to rethink the body, deepen your clinical reasoning and rediscover the art of listening through your hands.
Whether your passion lies in helping people living with persistent pain, improving movement, supporting nervous system regulation or simply becoming a more thoughtful and effective therapist, this diploma will give you a framework that will continue to influence every treatment you provide long after the course has finished.
Why you should train with us
The School of Bodywork has never viewed Fascial Bodywork as simply another collection of techniques.
Our aim is to help therapists become more curious, more observant and more confident in their clinical reasoning. Rather than teaching a single fascial method, we introduce you to a variety of approaches and encourage you to understand the principles that underpin them. This allows you to develop your own authentic style of working instead of becoming reliant on protocols or routines.
Throughout the Diploma we encourage discussion, exploration and critical thinking. You will learn to trust your hands, refine your palpatory skills and appreciate that every client presents a unique story. By integrating current fascial research with practical experience, psychology, pain science, embryology and biotensegrity, we aim to provide a learning experience that is both intellectually stimulating and immediately applicable in clinical practice.
Perhaps most importantly, this course is designed to support your own longevity as a therapist. Many graduates tell us they finish the Diploma not only with new skills, but with renewed enthusiasm for their profession and a completely different way of approaching treatment.
Course overview
This comprehensive postgraduate diploma combines online learning, ten practical training days, Zoom tutorials and extensive clinical practice to develop confident, thoughtful Fascial Bodywork practitioners.
You will explore the evolving science of fascia alongside practical techniques that can be used as complete Fascial Bodywork treatments or integrated into your existing massage and bodywork practice.
The emphasis is not on following routines but on understanding the body as a dynamic, interconnected system. As your observational skills, palpation and clinical reasoning develop, you will become increasingly confident in adapting your treatments to the individual rather than attempting to fit clients into pre-existing treatment models.
By the end of the Diploma you will have developed a broad range of practical skills together with a deeper understanding of the relationship between fascia, movement, pain, breathing, posture, psychology and nervous system function—allowing you to approach complex presentations with greater confidence and curiosity.
Course syllabus
Throughout the Diploma you will develop both your practical skills and your understanding of the body as an interconnected whole. Rather than learning a single method, you will explore a range of fascial approaches and discover how to adapt your treatments to the individual in front of you.
During the course you will explore:
- The latest research and evolving understanding of fascia.
- An introduction to Biotensegrity and how it informs our understanding of movement, tension and restriction.
- Embryological development and how this shapes the organisation of the body.
- Body reading skills to help identify patterns of tension and compensation.
- Deepened palpatory skills and the art of listening through your hands.
- A wide range of both direct and indirect Fascial Bodywork techniques.
- Techniques that are highly effective while also supporting therapist longevity.
- Pain science and working with clients experiencing persistent or unexplained pain.
- The relationship between fascia, the nervous system and healing.
- Trauma-informed principles and a whole-body approach to treatment.
- Home care and self-care strategies that empower clients beyond the treatment room.
- Clinical reasoning and adapting treatments to suit individual presentations.
Throughout the Diploma you will continually develop your confidence in assessment, treatment planning and integrating Fascial Bodywork into your existing practice.

Course Format
The Diploma has been carefully designed to allow your skills and understanding to develop gradually over several months, giving you time to integrate your learning into clinical practice between teaching weekends.
The programme includes:
- Ten practical classroom days delivered over five weekends.
- Comprehensive online learning modules available four weeks before the course begins.
- Live Zoom tutorials between practical weekends.
- Small class sizes, allowing plenty of individual guidance and feedback.
- Extensive hands-on practice throughout the programme.
- Ongoing peer discussion and tutor support.
Many students tell us that the time between weekends is one of the greatest strengths of the Diploma, allowing concepts to settle, confidence to grow and clinical questions to emerge naturally as they begin applying the work in practice.

Continue Your Fascial Journey
Learning Fascial Bodywork does not end with the Diploma—it is the beginning of an ongoing journey of curiosity, observation and refinement.
We are currently developing an Advanced Fascial Bodywork Programme, planned for 2027, for graduates wishing to deepen their understanding even further.
Building on the foundations established within the Diploma, this advanced training will explore more complex clinical presentations, refine palpatory skills and continue developing the thoughtful, responsive approach that lies at the heart of Fascial Bodywork.
Further details will be announced soon.
We look forward to continuing the journey with you.
Assessments
Assessment is designed to support your learning and ensure you graduate feeling confident in both your practical skills and clinical reasoning.
To successfully complete the Diploma you will:
- Complete the online learning modules.
- Submit four case studies(four clients, each treated four times).
- Maintain a reflective journal documenting a minimum of 50 treatments.
- Successfully complete a final practical assessment on the last training weekend.
- Attend all practical teaching days (100% attendance required).
Coursework should be submitted within three months of the final teaching weekend.
Please note that your reflective journal must contain at least 40 completed treatments before undertaking your final practical assessment.
Qualification & Accreditation
On successful completion you will be awarded the Fascial Bodywork Practitioner Diploma, accredited by ThinkTree.

Whether you choose to offer dedicated Fascial Bodywork sessions or integrate the techniques into your existing treatments, the Diploma provides a strong foundation from which your practice can continue to evolve.
FAQs
Is this course suitable if I mainly treat sports injuries?
Absolutely. While Fascial Bodywork is often associated with persistent pain and chronic conditions, the principles can be integrated into sports massage, remedial massage and many other styles of manual therapy. Many therapists find it complements and enhances the treatments they already provide.
Will I still be able to use my existing techniques?
Yes. The aim is not to replace your current skills but to expand them. Many graduates naturally begin weaving Fascial Bodywork into their existing treatments, creating sessions that are more individualised and responsive to each client.
Do I have to work gently all the time?
No. This Diploma explores both direct and indirect approaches to Fascial Bodywork. Rather than promoting one style over another, we encourage you to understand when different approaches may be appropriate and develop the clinical reasoning to make informed choices.
Is there a lot of science on the course?
Yes—but always with clinical relevance. We explore current understanding of fascia, pain science, embryology, biotensegrity and nervous system function in a way that continually links theory back to practical application.
Will I feel confident using these techniques when I qualify?
That is one of our main aims. The combination of practical weekends, online learning, case studies, reflective practice and tutor support is designed to help you develop genuine confidence rather than simply learning a collection of techniques.

Louise Mockford has spent more than twenty years exploring Fascial Bodywork in humans and equines, through clinical practice, postgraduate training and continual professional development. Her work has been influenced by a wide range of fascial approaches, together with her background in psychology, equine bodywork and her enduring fascination with how the body adapts, compensates and heals.
Rather than encouraging students to follow rigid protocols, Louise is passionate about helping therapists develop curiosity, confidence and trust in what they feel beneath their hands. Her teaching combines science with sensitivity, encouraging students to question traditional assumptions while remaining grounded in thoughtful clinical reasoning.
Students often comment that one of Louise’s greatest strengths is creating a learning environment where questions are welcomed, exploration is encouraged and everyone feels supported to develop their own authentic style of practice.
The Fascial Bodywork Diploma got me back in touch with feeling, listening to the body and trusting what I felt. Louise made space and time for us to develop our 'feel' for working with the fascia. This training was precious and has given me the confidence and tools to go out and practise this beautiful and fascinating work. It has renewed my practice and given me therapist longevity. — Z.R.
We are incredibly proud of the community that has grown around this Diploma. Many graduates tell us that the course not only changes the way they treat their clients, but also renews their enjoyment of being a therapist. Long after the Diploma has finished, students continue to support one another, share ideas and keep learning together.
