Hello, and welcome to Working with Neurodivergent Clients.
I'm Jo and I'm so pleased you've chosen to join me on this course.
My path into massage therapy began after experiencing the profound effects of massage during my own recovery from trauma. That experience completely changed my understanding of the relationship between the body, the nervous system and emotional wellbeing, inspiring me to retrain as a massage therapist.
Today I run a successful massage practice supporting neurodivergent clients and people experiencing mental health challenges. I also teach baby massage because I firmly believe that safe, nurturing touch is one of the most powerful ways we can communicate. Long before we understand language, touch helps us feel safe, connected and regulated.
Alongside my professional experience, I also have a deeply personal connection to neurodivergence. As the parent of neurodivergent children, I've spent many years learning, listening, advocating and navigating education, healthcare and everyday life. Living alongside neurodivergence has taught me lessons that no textbook ever could. It has shown me the importance of seeing the individual behind the diagnosis, recognising different communication styles, understanding sensory needs, and appreciating that behaviours are often expressions of an overwhelmed nervous system rather than something to be corrected.
Over the years, I've supported many autistic, ADHD and otherwise neurodivergent clients. Small, thoughtful adjustments can make an enormous difference. This course isn't about learning a completely new massage technique. Its about understanding neurodiversity, recognising how different nervous systems experience the world, and developing the confidence to adapt your practice so that every client feels safe, respected and understood.
Together we will explore sensory processing, communication, consent, nervous system regulation, common co-occurring conditions, and practical strategies that you can implement immediately in your treatment room.
My hope is that by the end of this course, you will feel more confident working with neurodivergent clients There is no single approach that suits every client. The most valuable skill you can develop is the ability to listen, adapt and meet each person where they are.
Thank you for choosing to learn with me.
Lets begin.
