A progressive journey into skilled, responsive, and meaningful work
Cranial and TMJ-related issues are some of the most common – and often most frustrating – conditions that clients present with. Jaw pain, clicking or locking, tinnitus, chronic headaches, facial tension… these symptoms can be deeply disruptive to everyday life. And yet, many clients struggle to find meaningful, effective support. This is where your work as a therapist can make a profound difference.
Our Cranial & TMJ training has been carefully developed to equip you with the skills, understanding, and confidence to support these clients in a way that is both effective and deeply considered. From the very first workshop, you will learn techniques and approaches that you can take straight into your practice – helping clients who may feel they have run out of options.
Developed and taught by Louise Mockford, who specialises in this work, this training is rooted in a fascial, whole-body perspective. It moves beyond isolated treatment of the jaw to explore how the cranium, face, and TMJ relate to the entire body, with a strong emphasis on the nervous system and a holistic perspective throughout.
A Progressive Learning Journey
Your journey begins with Level 1, giving you plenty of effective tools and a great foundation to help many of your clients. However, if you find you wish to specialise more in this field, you are now able to take further training with us as a structured pathway designed to support your development over time – both in your technical skills and in your ability to feel, listen, and respond through your hands.
Each level builds on the last, deepening your understanding and refining your touch.
All levels are delivered through a blended learning approach, with pre-course online theory designed to give you the knowledge and context before you arrive, allowing your in-person training to focus on hands-on practice, integration, and skill development.
Access to the online theory will be provided one month before your course date. Please ensure this is completed prior to attending the in-person training, so you can get the most from your practical experience.
Level 1: Foundations of Cranial & TMJ Work
Level 1 is where your journey begins.
This course introduces you to working with the cranium and jaw in a way that may feel very different from more traditional massage approaches. You will begin to explore more subtle techniques, learning how to engage with the tissues of the face, jaw, and skull through the fascial network.
There is a strong focus on the nervous system throughout, helping you understand how these presentations are not simply “mechanical issues,” but are often influenced by wider factors such as stress, overwhelm, trauma and long-standing patterns within the body.
You will learn a combination of massage and fascial techniques, with a stronger focus on subtle fascial work, that can be immediately applied in practice, giving you tools to start supporting clients with symptoms such as:
- Jaw pain and restriction
- Clicking or locking of the jaw
- Tinnitus
- Chronic headaches and facial tension
This level lays the foundations – not just of technique, but of a different way of working.

Level 2: Integration Through the Body
Level 2 takes you beyond the jaw and cranium and into the wider relationships that influence them – we will explore how these areas function as part of a much larger, interconnected system. The jaw does not work in isolation - it influences and is influenced by the rest of the body, breath, posture, nervous system and the body's ongoing adaptations to the environment in which it exists.
Throughout the course, we will explore the fascinating relationships between the cranium, temporomandibular joint (TMJ), the pelvis, and sacrum. You will learn how a broader treatment perspective can often create more meaningful and lasting change for those suffering with these very common and often debilitating symptoms.
The online learning component expands your understanding of:
- The jaw, neck and shoulder complex
- The hyoid, tongue and floor of the mouth
- Breathing mechanics and their influence
- Forward head posture and whole-body adaptation
- The relationship between the cranium, jaw and pelvis
- Pain science and the biopsychosocial model
- Headaches, migraines and red flag considerations
- The role of the nervous system in persistent symptoms
- Adaptation, asymmetry and individual variation
- The therapeutic relationship, client agency and effective communication
We will also explore how deeper, more meaningful consultations can help us better understand the person behind the symptoms. You will learn how the questions we ask, the language we use and the way we communicate can influence outcomes, build trust and support clients in becoming active participants in their own recovery.
During the practical training days you will continue to develop your hands-on skills through both massage and fascial approaches, learning techniques for:
- The tongue, hyoid and floor of the mouth
- Integrating the jaw and cranium with the wider body
- Expanding your treatment options for complex and persistent presentations
- Homecare strategies, self-treatment techniques and client education
As your confidence grows, so does your ability to think beyond isolated symptoms. You will gain additional tools, techniques and clinical reasoning skills that will help you assess more effectively, adapt your treatments to the individual and work with greater confidence.
The aim of Level 2 is to deepen your knowledge, broaden your perspective and provide you with a wider range of practical skills to help you achieve meaningful outcomes for your clients. This is where your treatments become more connected, more individualised and often far more effective.

Level 3: Advanced Practice
By Level 3, you will have developed a much more refined and responsive touch.
This course focuses on clinical application – supporting you in working with more complex presentations and clients who may not have responded to more general approaches. You will explore how to adapt your work in real-world scenarios, drawing on everything you have learned in the previous levels.
There is a strong emphasis on:
- Working with more complex or persistent cases, including understanding more about pain education
- Refining and evolving your techniques
- Learning additional techniques that build on your existing skillset
- Developing your ability to listen through your hands and respond to what you feel
At this stage, your work becomes less about applying techniques and more about understanding the person in front of you and responding with skill, sensitivity, and a greater awareness of the whole presentation.

A Different Way of Working
Across all levels, this training is underpinned by a consistent philosophy:
- The body is not a collection of separate parts – it is an interconnected whole
- The fascia is a continuous web that influences everything
- The nervous system plays a central role in how symptoms are experienced and expressed
- There is no one-size-fits-all approach – each treatment is individual
You will not be taught routines.
Instead, you will be supported in developing your own way of working – grounded in solid understanding, refined technique, and the confidence to adapt to each client.
